What an energetic term! Capilano University’s Battle of the Buildings challenged student teams from the School of Business’ Leadership in Teams courses (BADM 218) to implement activities in assigned buildings to reduce energy consumption through behaviour change. The Battle of the Buildings resulted in a small contribution to the total energy savings in 11 buildings of: 7% (group 1 – domestic students) and 16% (group 2 – international students in the North American Business Management program, also called NABU) or 45,767 kWh!
The winning teams are those representing the Fitness Centre (domestic) and Arbutus building (NABU), and the students couldn’t have done it without the fabulous support of their building champions—staff members who volunteered to help arrange meetings, brainstorm, put up posters and engage their coworkers in the students’ initiatives.
The competition was tracked on Pulse dashboards, a software that Facilities uses to monitor energy consumption on campus. This year, one of the participating classes welcomed international students, which led to an unexpected global result: many students mentioned discussions about conservation behaviours with their families! Check out one of the team’s fantastic custom animation: Powtoon.
Thanks to everyone for participating and for helping Capilano U save energy!
